Store layouts generally show the size and location of each department, any permanent structures, fixture locations and customer traffic patterns.
Each floor plan and store layout will depend on the type of products sold, the building location and how much the business can afford to put into the overall store design.
Below are a few basic store layouts.
Grid Floor Plan
The grid floor plan is an excellent store layout for most any type of retail store. It makes use of the walls and fixtures to create small spaces within the retail store. The straight floor plan is one of the most economical store designs.
The diagonal floor plan is a good store layout for self-service types of retail stores. It offers excellent visibility for cashiers and customers. The diagonal floor plan invites movement and traffic flow to the retail store.
Angular Floor Plan
The angular floor plan is best used for high-end specialty stores. The curves and angles of fixtures and walls makes for a more expensive store design. However, the soft angles create better traffic flow throughout the retail store.
The geometric floor plan is a suitable store design for clothing and apparel shops. It uses racks and fixtures to create an interesting and out-of-the-ordinary type of store design without a high cost.
Free Flow Floor Plan
The mixed floor plan or free flow incorporates the straight, diagonal and angular floor plans to create the most functional store design. The layout moves traffic towards the walls and back of the store.
Nanking Bazar
As to submit the assignment paper as a partial requirement of this Course 201, Retail Management, we have chosen Nanking Bazar, a well known retail store in Rajshahi. It is situated at Monibazar, C&B More, Rajshahi. We observed this store and make out it's layout. This store is based on grid layout. It's height is about 100 feet long and width is variably 25 and 40 feet. Total area of this store is approximately 3400 Square feet.
From our observation we found they use various types of furniture to show their products.
This furniture include Wall racks, Corner racks, Gondola Wall units, Gondolas, Shelf, Cube units, Refrigerator, Freezer, Slatwall Panel, Coffee Machine.
Cube Units
Glass, plastic or wire cubes on a laminated base can be purchased together as a unit or designed from your own plan. Cube units work well for related items that may need dividers or other configurations for merchandise like clothing in various sizes and colors.
Gondola Shelving Unit
Gondola shelving units have been around for a very long time. The versatility makes gondolas easy to install and change on a frequent basis. The pegboard backing and shelving comes in several heights and depths. It is also available in a variety of colors, but the most common is almond. Gondola shelving can be used to create end caps, wall units or center aisles.
Slatwall Panels
Slatboard is available in many different laminated finishes and wood grains or paint-grade slatwall allows you to paint your own. Slatwall hooks, shelves, brackets and other slatboard accessories help improve merchandising and sales.
Corner Rack
This corner rack ties together several common store fixtures to create an attractive and functional checkout area.
